Most of us believe heaven is a physical place or space outside of ourself. We think heaven is above our heads and beyond the clouds or in another dimension we can only get to after our physical death. We are taught that heaven is this abundantly beautiful place where angels live, souls are free and where we reunite with our ancestors. I believe this is partly true. I think we fail to fully understand that heaven is not just outside of our current experiences. Heaven is not a destination. Heaven is right now. Heaven is everywhere we are. Heaven is a feeling. Let me say it again. Heaven is a feeling. We feel heaven through our senses. Heaven is/are moments that feel good and are wonderful. Honestly, words fail when we feel heaven in our hearts.
Heaven is….
The moment we can’t wait to be reunited with a loved one we adore and missed.
The moment we sit down at the table to take a bite of our favorite homemade meal made by someone we love. Food so good you almost want to cry with joy.
The moment a child says our name for the first time.
The moment we hear a child laugh for the first time.
The moment someone says I love you for the first time.
The moment you hold our child in your arms the first time.
The moment a wise relative gives you the best advice that answers your questions and sets you on the right path.
The moment we hear our favorite song.
The moments we are dancing like no one is watching.
The moment when we walk into your house, take a deep grateful breath that we are home; kick off our shoes, sit on the couch and put our feet up.
The moment a child finally gets what they are trying to learn and what you are trying to teach them.
The moment someone buys you something you always wanted.
The moment we write a really great poem or song and people celebrate you for it.
Heaven is in the small simple moments that mean everything during the life we live….
